MG09 range

Is the MG09 18 TB right for you?

Pick it for raw capacity in a box that lives out of earshot, because 7,200 rpm enterprise drives are built to run flat out all day, every day. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. Recording is CMR, the right kind for RAID and ZFS.

Watch out for

Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.

No Backblaze failure rate for this one, as they don't run it in big enough numbers. Put four in RAID 5 and you'll have 54 TB to fill (Windows will call it 49.1 TB).

Specifications

Each value links to the Toshiba page or datasheet it came from, and "Not published" means the maker doesn't list it there.

Failure rate

There's no Backblaze figure for this one. We only publish a rate with at least 60 drives and 50 drive-years behind it, because below that the error bars are too wide to tell you anything. The reliability page has every model that clears the bar.
