Exos X24 range

Should you buy the Exos X24 24 TB?

It's at home in a rack or a garage, where 7,200 rpm of spinning rust can whirr away all day without bothering anyone. Seagate backs it for five years, which is a long time in drive terms. CMR, thankfully. SMR and parity rebuilds don't get on.

Watch out for

At 7,200 rpm it's from the louder, warmer class. Fine in a cupboard, less fun on a desk. Its Backblaze record is the weak spot, with 3.03% AFR and even the bottom of the interval above the 1.40% median.

A 4-bay box full of these gives 72 TB after one drive's worth of parity.

Each value links to the Seagate page or datasheet it came from, and "Not published" means the maker doesn't list it there.
