Should you buy the QNAP TS-264?

Mirror the two drives and either one can die without taking your files with it. The chip is an Intel Celeron N5095.

Watch out for

A mirror costs you half the raw space, and with two bays the only way to grow is bigger drives.

A PCIe slot leaves room for a 10GbE card if you outgrow the built-in ports. Two M.2 slots too.

Usable space with 2 matching drives

These are decimal TB, the way drive boxes count them, and Windows will show roughly 9% less. Got a mix of sizes? Put your own drives in the calculator and it'll work out the layers.

Each driveMirror (RAID 1)
4 TB × 24 TB ≈ 3.6 TiB
8 TB × 28 TB ≈ 7.3 TiB
12 TB × 212 TB ≈ 10.9 TiB
16 TB × 216 TB ≈ 14.6 TiB
20 TB × 220 TB ≈ 18.2 TiB
24 TB × 224 TB ≈ 21.8 TiB
