Is the QNAP TS-h973AX the right NAS?

Put 9 drives in RAID 5 and one drive's worth goes on parity, leaving you 89% of what you paid for. There's room for RAID 6 too, keeping 78% of the space with two drives' worth of protection, and on big drives that's worth having. It's x86. Docker's happy. Room for 64 GB of RAM (ECC, too) means a VM or two can sit alongside the containers. 10GbE comes built in (one port), and a fast desktop won't be left waiting on the network.

Usable space with 9 matching drives

These are decimal TB, the way drive boxes count them, and Windows will show roughly 9% less. Got a mix of sizes? Put your own drives in the calculator and it'll work out the layers.
