Who the IronWolf Pro 20 TB is for

This is the one to look at once you're past eight bays or the array's busy all day, because Seagate rates it for 550 TB a year and doesn't care how big the box is. You also get five years' warranty, two more than the cheapest NAS lines. Recording is CMR, the right kind for RAID and ZFS.

Watch out for

Being 7,200 rpm, it's in the noisier, warmer class of drive, and you'll want it somewhere you don't sit.

There's no Backblaze data worth quoting here. Four of them in SHR or RAID 5 give 60 TB usable, or 54.6 TB once Windows has done its binary maths on it.

Specifications

Each value links to the Seagate page or datasheet it came from, and "Not published" means the maker doesn't list it there.

Failure rate

There's no Backblaze figure for this one. We only publish a rate with at least 60 drives and 50 drive-years behind it, because below that the error bars are too wide to tell you anything. The reliability page has every model that clears the bar.
